1. She picked a crazy way to announce her appearance.
The self-professed “twerk” queen announced her Unplugged special during a scripted episode of Teen Wolf via Instagram which caused a huge uproar in the music community.
2. Once again, she’s the talk of the town.
Cyrus continues to draw attention to her new-found image by announcing the special in a topless picture with a blonde chin-length wig, black hat, yellow-and-white scarf tied around her neck, black gloves, nipple pasties and fake buck teeth with a demure look on her face. If she was trying to elicit more response from the media, it worked.
3. This is her first Unplugged showing.
The Unplugged series started in 1989. This is Miley’s first appearance on the MTV Unplugged stage and her first MTV Unplugged special.
4. She’s in the Land of the Elite.
Cyrus joins an elite crew of artists which have given some of the most iconic live performances of all time. This list includes Mariah Carey, Adele, Jay Z, Lil Wayne, Katy Perry, Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Tony Bennett and Florence and the Machine.
5. This show will be a “different” Miley.
This special will showcase a more intimate side of Miley, with a rearrangement of hits that defined her career. The special will also include reinventions of a few songs off the #1 Bangerz album like “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball.”
6. We’re in for a few surprises.
There will be a few surprise guests to appear during the special to assist Miley on some of her remixed songs which could include Kanye West, Mike Will Made It, Britney Spears, Future, Big Sean and more.
7. She’s prepping for her tour with this appearance.
The special will be aired on January 29 and comes right before she starts her 38-city “Bangerz” tour which kicks off on Valentine’s Day in Vancouver. The performance may mirror elements of her tour, including acoustic covers, cartoon animals and a lot of fun and carefree Miley moments.
8. She has something to prove.
Miley was crowned MTV’s Best Artist of 2013, which solidified her spot, including her performances at the MTV Video Music Awards and MTV EMAs.
MTV also aired a documentary, Miley: The Movement, in October which chronicled the recording process of her new album Bangerz. Miley has to keep up the momentum from her other showings, so she has something to prove to the audience.
9. MTV is excited!
Amy Doyle, MTV’s Executive VP of Music and Talent Programming Strategy says of the special, “Miley’s vision for the performance is like nothing we’ve ever seen. I can say that it will easily be one of the most memorable Unplugged performances to date.”
10. The MTV name sticks to its roots.
The show sticks to its roots with direction by Alex Coletti. Joanna Bomberg, Jac Benson II, Garret English and Doyle will executive produce.
