1. Paris Hilton
The scandal-plagued heiress was arrested in September of 2006 by Los Angeles’ police officers who saw the platinum princess driving erratically through the streets of Hollywood. Though she later claimed the incident was “no big deal,” Hilton ended up with a suspended license, 36 months’ probation and fines that totaled around $1,500.
2. Lindsay Lohan
The red-headed star of cinematic masterpieces like Herbie Fully Loaded and Freaky Friday was arrested for DUI twice in 2007, leading to years of legal trouble, several stints in rehab and a rash of bad publicity.
3. Nick Nolte
Despite starring in more than 40 films, including critically acclaimed turns in The Prince of Tides and Affliction, Nick Nolte is perhaps best known for his September 2002 DUI arrest. The arrest led to a $500 fine, 90 days in rehab, three years of probation and quite possible the most epic mug shot of all time.
4. Mel Gibson
On July 28, 2006, Mel Gibson entered the DUI Hall of Fame when he turned a routine arrest into a hate-filled anti-Semitic tirade. Rehab, 12 months in AA, license restrictions and three years of probation seemed to mellow out Mad Max, but the fallout from the incident has left Gibson’s reputation in tatters.
5. Haley Joel Osment
Famed dead people seer Haley Joel Osment was seeing double from the back seat of a police cruiser after he was arrested for driving with a blood-alcohol content almost double the legal limit on July 20th 2006.
The underage Osment lost control of his 1995 Saturn, hit a mailbox and flipped the car, injuring himself in the process. He paid his fine, attended mandatory AA meetings and spent some time in rehab and has stayed out of trouble since.
6. Tim Allen
Star of the TV hit Tool Time and part-time Santa Claus Tim Allen was arrested for racing his Ferrari while under the influence in 1997. He got off easy with a fine, probation and counseling, a significantly lighter penalty than the 2 years Allen spend in federal prison for trafficking cocaine.
7. Keanu Reeves
Keanu Reeves had a less than excellent adventure when his choice to drive under the influence led to a police-escorted trip to the slammer in 1993. Reeves confessed and got off with a slap on the wrist.
8. Diana Ross
No doubt Diana Ross was feeling supremely ashamed when cops arrested her for being more than three times the legal blood-alcohol limit in 2002. Ross pled “no contest” and spent two days in jail.
9. Mike Tyson
It’s not surprising that someone who eats ears and cavorts with tigers would drink on occasion, but Mike Tyson’s DUI arrest in 2006 came with the epic additions of a near-collision with a police car and some cocaine possession.
10. George W. Bush
When the former POTUS was just 30 years old, he was arrested near his family’s Kennebunkport, Maine compound for drinking and driving. He pled guilty, and the rest is, well, history.
